AUSTRALIA BATTING SUMMARY

POWERPLAY – GOOD BASEMENT

Aaron Finch and D arcy Short were the openers and Bhuvneshwar Kumar had the new ball. Australia scored 8 runs in the 1st over. Khaleel Ahmed bowled the 2nd over. The left hander was not accurate and bowled 2 wides and also gave away more runs in his over. Jasprit Bumrah got introduced in the 4th over, but he also couldn’t stop the Aussies. Both the batsmen were scoring occasional boundaries and also good in rotating the strike. Australia scored 49 runs in powerplay over.

On seeing the surface of the pitch, it seems slow like in India and could assist the spinners well. The team score after powerplay was 49/0

MIDDLE OVER – HIT AND WICKET

The partnership was marching towards fifty. Kuldeep Yadav got introduced in the 7th over. He was very economical and the batsmen struggled to read him. But alas the partnership reached 50. Another spinner Krunal got a chance to prove his worthiness. The first ball he bowled to Finch was a near wicket but Rohit dropped it. But Finch hadn’t had his day. Kuldeep removed Finch and Krunal hold off the catch. Finch went for 28 runs. The score was 73/1 after 9 overs.

Maxwell came to the crease. It was now Krunal’s chance again and this time he took the wicket of Short for lbw and the next ball he removed McDermott for lbw again. Short went for 33 runs and McDermott went for golden duck. Carey came to the crease and he faced the hat trick ball. Somehow he survives and took a single. That over produced 3 runs and 2 wickets. It’s really surprising Chris Lynn not came to bat yet. After 10 overs, the score was 76/3

This partnership between Maxwell and Carey was moving slowly. They were rotating the strikes and the score was slowly moving. Kuldeep Yadav yet again produced an economical spell and he finished for 1/19 in his 4 overs. In the 14th over, Krunal Pandya removed Maxwell and it was caught by Rohit. Lynn came to the crease. The score reaches 100 in the 15th over. Yet again Krunal removed Carry and took his 4th wicket. He ended his 4 overs and tok the figures 4/36.

The spinners bowled their quotas and it was in the hand of fast bowlers to survive the Aussie attack.

Among the bowlers, the fast bowlers were not very much impressive. Krunal went for runs but picked 4 wickets and though Kuldeep picked 1 wicket he was economical bowler among others in this innings. Stonis was not out on 25 runs from 15 balls and Coulter-Nile was 13 runs from 7 balls.

The target for India is 165 from 20 overs.
