Story so far

After the early exit from 2015 World cup, England had played 84 matches. They had won 55 matches, lost 23 matches and 6 matches been No Result. Post 2015 World Cup, England had crossed 400 times four times and also scored the highest run 481/6 against Australia. The only team to post 400 four times after 2015 World Cup.

After the loss to Australia in their home in the year 2015, they never lost in their home turf. They had won all the 8 series played in their backyard. They faced ICC Champions Trophy in 2017 and lost in Semi Finals against the tournament winning team Pakistan.

Axing of Alex Hales at last minute for using banned substance been a major blow to their batting rhythm. Eoin Morgan continues his reign as captain from 2015 World Cup. Their batting is full power but their bowlers gives most runs to the opponents.

Batting analysis

England have more depth in their batting. Starting from the explosive combo of Jason Roy and Bairstow, with the solid and experience of Joe Root and Eoin Morgan. They have batting depth in the team with the likes of Butler, Ali and Curran. They can be explosive at lower the order.

Bowling analysis

Chris Woakes adds more value to the team along with Archer, they can be more lethal. Plunkett adds experience to the order, with Tom Curran showing his all round skills. Ben Stokes not much bowling, but he can lend support to the team.

Previous encounters at Cricket World Cups

England had never won World cups in 50 Over format till 2015 World Cup. It can be said that England are the chokers of the finals. They reached finals 3 times (1979,1987,1992). Gatting’s fatal reverse sweep caused much worse to them in the year 1987 and slipped from winning position. Even they couldn’t able to win ICC Champion Trophy (Mini World Cup) at their home ground. They were runners in 2013 and semi finalists in 2017.

They were too strong in bilateral series, but in ICC tournaments, they were not above average team.

Players to watch out for

Jason Roy – An explosive opener and gives a solid opening to the team. He has hit 516 runs in his last 10 matches with an average of 51.6

Joe Root – A solid number 3 batsman filled with stroke making shots and also a handy spin bowler

Chris Woakes – Bowling all rounder with economical spells and lower order batting gives more depth to the team.

X – Factor

Jofra Archer – Consistently clocking at 140 KPH, he has shown his worth in the major league teams like Hobart Hurricanes and Rajasthan Royals. He also varies his speed with accurate Yorker and bounce. He can also add explosive batting in the line ups. His inclusion in the team at the last minute is a major boost to their bowling order. Along with Tom Curran, Woakes and Plunkett, they can shake any batting orders on a given day.

England can reach Semi Finals considering their batting power house and surprise picks in the squad.
