Story so far

Pakistan had played 80 matches post 2015 World Cup. Mostly they have good record in England grounds. They won the Champions Trophy 2017 tournament in England. The most anticipated match is against India. Pakistan had never beaten India in the World Cups.  Pakistan had played 15 matches this year against South Africa, Australia and England. They lost all 3 series and they just won 2 matches and lost 12 matches.

Batting Analysis

Both Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-haq excel as the openers of the Pakistan team and has average more than 50+. Along with them is Babar Azam at number 3. He showed good intent against recently concluded England series. He has an average of 55.2 in the recently concluded England series with 1 century and 2 half centuries. So, both these 3 batsmen can attack any bowling order of the opponents on the given day.

Shoaib Malik and Hafeez can give support as experienced batsmen to young Asif Ali. The death overs can be faced by Imad Wasim and Sarfraz Ahmed. Both of them can strike the ball well. Especially Wasim has a good strike rate of 107.61 with an average of 40.95. Haris Sohail also at number 5 position can add more assistance to the squad.

Bowling Analysis

Shaheen Shah Afridi is their best strike bowler. He has taken 24 wickets in 14 matches with 3 four-fers. But he’s been leaking runs hugely is something that Pakistan team need to be worried. On the other hand the inclusion of Wahab Riyaz, has given some boost to their bowling order. Riyaz lastly played two years back in 2017 Champions Trophy in England. He got injured in that match and now only he’s coming to international arena. Shadab Khan has been added in the squad at the last minute means he can trouble the batsmen with his variations in spin and give support to Imad Wasim too.

Hasan ali can be handy with the ball with good economy rate and Mohammed Hasnain can bowl short Pitch deliveries which can dismantle any batting order. Along with they they have seasoned Mohammed Amir, who can give more support.

They have more spin options like Malik, Hafeez, Wasim and Shadab Khan. So, these 4 can spin if the pitch assist spinners.

Previous encounters at Cricket World Cups

Pakistan last won the World Cup was in 1992 under Imran Khan’s captaincy. They were defeated in Quarter finals against Australia in 2015 Cricket World Cup. There is a huge pressure this time, to beat India in this tournament which never happened before and also they are entering this tournament as the winners of the 2017 Champions Trophy.

Players to watch out for

Babar Azam – He’s been phenomenal in the batting at number 3. Gives a solid partnership and can score big as the game progresses.

Imam-ul-haq – He’s a very good attacking opening batsman and can score runs consistently.

X – Factor

Shaheen Afridi is the X-factor for the team. With his height, he can bowl short pitch balls and can be lethal as a wicket taker.

Pakistan may give tough fight to their opponents, but this team’s chances of making semi finals is at huge risk. It all depends how they going to use the combination and select playing 11 according to circumstances. If that combination clicks then they will be top on the given day.
