Story So Far
Steve Smith and David Warner have been named in Australia’s World Cup squad after serving year-long bans for ball-tampering.
Until early March, Australia won just four out of 26 matches. But they came back against India and Pakistan winning the last eight ODIs consecutively. With Coach Justin Langer, Australians finding their winning side.
The start with Aaron Finch and Usman Khawaja as the standing openers looking good in the recent matches. But with the return of David Warner, Khawaja will be stepping down from opener to one down batsman. And also it effects on Smith to No 4 but inform batsman Shaun Marsh at number 4 position with recent hundreds might be batting at No 5. This may cause some ripples on the batting lineups.
There are no other players at the bottom to hit big hits to bring up the huge score since Marcus Stoinis is still finding his form with the bat.
Mitchell Starc played only three ODIs in the last 16 months since he is out with injury issues. He can still change the game if he found his momentum back. Another pace bowler Pat Cummins can get some wickets for the team for sure. With the spin duo of Nathan Lyon and Adam Zampa to back them up, Australia’s attack could run the show.
Players to watch out for:
Glenn Maxwell : Hitting his first century in the last World Cup with the strike rate of 182, the Australian allrounder still has the strength to knock some destructive innings. Maxwell is the finest middle order batsman who can take the team for some high score total.
Australians struggled without Warner and Smith losing more number of matches, but they picked up the momentum later in the recent matches. They came back strong as the world cup arrives, they have the champions Warner, Smith, Starc enough to win the trophy. Yup, they might be winning their sixth cup in this World Cup. Note : “Might be!“
