WINDIES BATTING SUMMARY
OPENING – AS EXPECTED
WI openers were Kieran Powell and Chandrapaul Hemraj and Mohammed Shami has the new ball and bowled the 1st over. The first breakthrough happened at 4.3 overs when the score was 19/1. Shami bowled Hemraj for less runs. Hope joined Powell for the 2nd wicket. Powell was playing in t20 format and scored quick fifty. After scoring fifty he got out while Dhawan took the catch at long off and indian left arm pacer Khaleel bowled. Marlon Samuels then came in, who was playing his 200th ODI was gone for duck and soon the score was 86/3 in 15.3 overs. Hetmyer and Hope joined. The duo were rotating the strikes until Hope got out for the short ball Shami bowled and keeper Dhoni completed the catch. So, the score was 114/4 in 21.4 overs.
So, the match was going as expected and we all thought, the team will be scoring less runs on board.
MIDDLE ORDER – EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED
Now Hetmyer and Powell joined the crease and the duo were batting sensibly. Hetmyer was striking the ball cleanly for sixes. Powell rotating the strikes and hitting boundaries then and there accompanied Hetmyer . The run rate was going 6 an over and Hetmyer reaches 50. Kohli was changing bowlers inorder to control the run flow but they failed miserably. Except Chahal no one got success. Shami was leaking runs and so as Jadeja. On the other hand, Chahal was economical with less than 5 an over.
Jadeja came for second spell and bowled Powell and soon the score was 188/5 at 30.3 overs. Now the captain Holder comes into crease and joins Hetmyer. Holder was anchoring the innings while Hetmyer was giving lusty blows. So, he reached century, marking as 3rd ODI hundred in 13 innings which is fifth fastest in the world and first WI batsman to do so. The run rate now going beyond 6.5, and then yet again Jadeja provided a breakthrough, Hetmyer gone giving a catch at mid off.
Overall, we can say the Fielding of Indians wan not upto the mark and was little sloppy.
LOWER ORDER – NOT UPTO THE MARK
As the Windies were looking to go beyond 350+ mark, the wickets were tumbling and Chahal put an end to Holder`s anchoring innings. The Scorecard reads 278/8 in 43.2 overs. Two new batsmen were in crease, Bishoo and Roach and they were taking singles then and there. The duo added 44 runs in 42 balls for the 9th wicket partnership and the team score reached 322/8 in 50 overs.
Indian bowlers all went for runs except Chahal who was economical and also took 3 wickets. Shami and Jadeja picked up 2 wickets each and Khaleel got one. Umesh went wicketless. Among the bowlers Shami went more than 80+ runs in the 10 overs.
INNINGS BREAK – INDIA NEED 323 RUNS TO WIN.
WI BATTING STARS – Shimron Hetmyer and the star and worked hard in middle overs, and it was Kieran Powell who made a dashing start as an opener and gave the other batsmen the confidence.
