INDIA BATTING SUMMARY
OPENING – KING’S DAY
Indian openers are out in the middle and the Windies captain Jason Holder had the new ball. Roach and Holder were sharing the two new balls and the Indian openers were playing sensibly. At the 4th over, Roach bowled the hitman and he gone for mere 4 runs and the score reads 15/1 in 3.1 overs. Now the Indian captain Kohli comes into the middle on a mission to achieve 10,000 runs which is 81 runs far away from achieving a rare feat . The two batsmen couldn’t build big partnership as the spinner Nurse removed Dhawan by taking a wise call of review. The home town boyAmbati Rayudu gets in the middle and then the run rate got steady. Kohli was batting aggressively and Rayudu was doing an anchoring innings. Both of them scored fifties and were complimenting each other.
Rayudu was playing to prove his case for number 4 spot, which is a long hunt for BCCI for 2019 world cup. So, he was proving his case that too in his home town.
MIDDLE ORDER – CAPTAIN’S KNOCK
The partnership were building and crossed 100 run mark, and the windies bowlers were searching for the breakthrough. Rayudu strated to play aggressive knock and then Nurse who got introduced back for his second spell removed the home boy for 73 runs. MS Dhoni came in the middle and joins with the captain.
Kohli achieved it. He crossed 10,000 runs and broke the record of Masterblaster Sachin Tendulkar’s record of achieving 10K runs in fewest matches. Sachin had this record in 259 matches and Kohli did it in 205 matches. The king became fifth Indian and 13th overall to score 10,000 runs in ODI cricket. There also a rare thing happened which is as follows
Yuvraj singh’s 6 SIXES
The first double century by an ODI cricketer by Sachin’s
Rohit Sharma’s maiden double century
Virat Kohli’s 10,000 runs
All the above records were done and in the other end MS Dhoni was witnessing these rare feats.
The run rate was going at a steady rate and Dhoni hits a six off the part time bowler Samuels. But soon he got out for 20 runs in 41st over bowled by the newbie left arm fast bowler. Now Pant comes into the crease and soon he started hitting boundaries but soon his innings came to an end by Samuels. He went for 13 runs and the scorecard reads 248/5 in 43.3 overs. In the same over Kohli scored his 37th ODI century, he also crosses 1000 runs in a calendar year in a fewer innings of 11 matches.
LOWER ORDER – GEAR SHIFTING
Jadeja joins with the captain and the captain started hitting sixes off McCoy, the debutant had no ideas and went for 20 runs in an over. Jadeja was hitting singles and Kohli was dealing with boundaries and sixes. Soon Jadeja got out in the 49th over, and Shami joins and then Kohli crossed 150 mark. The innings came to an end with the last ball being a dot ball.
India were 321/6 and gave target of 322 to Windies.
INDIA BATTING STARS – Virat Kohli and Ambati Rayudu were the stars and used this batting pitch.
OPENING – STEADY BUT STILL LACKS THE MOMEMTUM
The openers Powell and Hemraj were in the middle and Shami was having a new ball and at the other end Umesh Yadav was bowling. From the beginning Yadav been leaking runs and the score was rising steadily. Both the openers were busy in scoring and rotating the strike until Powel got dismissed by Shami. Shai Hope joins Hemraj and they were batting sensibly. But it doesn’t last long as the spinner Kuldeep removes Hemraj for 32 runs and the scorecard reads 64/2 in 9.3 overs. Marlon Samuels also couldn’t last long as he got bowled by the chinaman bowler Kuldeep for mere 13 runs and soon the score reads 78/3 in 12 overs.
MIDDLE ORDER – REDEMPTION BY THE SAVIOURS
Shimron Hetmyer joined Hope in the middle. Hetmyer continued his form where he left in the 1st ODI, he was picking the spinners and hitting huge sixes. The left right combination played Indian bowlers with ease. Hope took anchor innings and Hetmyer took aggressive role. They added 143 runs for the 4th wicket. There came Chahal and provided a breakthrough by dismissing Hetmyer for 94 runs. Hetmyer didn’t pick the ball and hit uppishly and got dismissed. His innings contained 4 boundaries and 7 sixes. After his dismissal Rowman Powell joined Hope and they were again guiding Windies to the winning track. While the partnership was going, the breakthrough yet again got produced by Kuldeep by removing Powell for 18 runs. The scorecard reads 253/5 in 37.3 overs. Still WI needs 69 runs from 75 balls, which was way too easy considering Hope’s batting and his stay in the crease.
LOWER ORDER – HOPE GAVE HOPE
Now the captain Holder joins with Hope. Virat Kohli was putting pressure to the new batsman by continuously making spinners to bowl and Holder was struggling and the run rate started climbing. Holder got run out and the other hand Hope scored a valiant century. The scoreboard reads 300/6 in 47.2 overs. Still WI need 22 runs to win from 16 balls. Ashley Nurse came and trying with singles. Shami bowled brilliantly the penultimate over executing proper Yorkers and the proper field placements made Hope to dive in pressure.
LAST OVER THRILLER
Last over the batting team needed 14 to win from 6 balls. Umesh Yadav had the ball. The first ball was a Yorker and Hope took single. 13 runs from 5 balls, Nurse was in strike, Umesh bowled but the ball hit the shoes and went to boundary backside. Now 9 to win from 4 balls. He hit 2 runs and came to strike, and the screen reads 7 to win from 3 balls, and that is where he gave a catch to Rayudu. No the scorecard reads 7 runs to win from 2 balls. Hope was in strike and Roach was the new batsman. Hope took 2 runs and 5 runs to win from last delivery. Umesh bowled slight wide ball and Hope hit forcefully, it went near boundary and Rayudu was diving to save it, but bad luck it was few inches away and the thus it went to boundary. All of them got shocked, the crowd got silenced, it is a tie.
More importantly, Umesh Yadav became 2nd player in the history to concede more than 70+ runs in ODI cricket by giving 12 times.
Jadeja and Shami were economical, Kuldeep picked 3 wickets at the right times. Those were the moments that made India not to lose this match.
WI STARS – Simron Hetmyer and Shai Hope were the two rising stars.
WHAT WENT WRONG
The spin department was good, they were doing what they did against the likes of Australia, South Africa and Newzealand. But fast bowling was purely let down without Bumrah. On the other hand Hetmyer is the only difference in the WI team who takes charge and attacks the spin department. Otherwise the result could be same as the previous ones.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH – VIRAT KOHLI
