Pant on other hand was contributing but soon he fell for 24 runs bowled by Nurse. MS Dhoni joined and he didn’t last long. He got out for cheap 7 runs bowled by Holder and score card reads 194/5 in 36 overs. India still need 90 runs to win from 84 balls and it looked like almost certain as Kohli was there in the middle.

LOWER ORDER – CENTURY AND COLLAPSE

Kohli scored his 38th ODI century and 23 in chasing. His first century in Pune ground. On the other hand Bhuvi was struggling to hit balls. At one stage the pressure mounted on him and he gave a catch to long off and went for 10 runs. Score was 215/6 in 40.2 overs. Still India needed 69 runs to win from 56 balls. In the 42nd over, Holder surprisingly introduced part time bowler Samuels to bowl and it paid off. He removed well settled batsman Kohli, as he missed the ball and got bowled. The team score now was 220/7 in 42 overs. And it all goes to tail enders to save it.

Kuldeep and Chahal joined and the partnership broke by a typical tailenders shot hit by Chahal. 225/8 in 43 overs. Still India needed 59 runs to win from 42 balls. Everybody was expecting a miracle to happen just like it happen to Windies tailenders, but it never happened. India got all out for 240 runs. Kuldeep remained not out on 15 runs. WI won by 43 runs and more importantly, they leveled the series 1 -1. It is 3rd match for India to lose while chasing when Kohli hit century and the first match in Home ground. Other two matches were in Newzeland and Australia.

Marlon Samuels though didn’t shine with the bat he did with the ball and took 3 wickets. Nurse bowled brilliantly and took 2 wickets at important stages. Others bowled economical.

India batting stars – Virat Kohli was the lone star. India could have won when atleast somebody at the other end gave partnership with him.

Overall, we can say it is a learning curve for Indian players and they still have 2 matches left in the series to think and work it out.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH – ASHLEY NURSE
