AB de Villiers made a offer to international cricket for South Africa at World Cup 2019 in England. However South Africa Cricket Team Management rejected his offer..

According to ESPNcricinfo, AB de Villiers made the offer in April, just 24 hours before the South African selectors unveiled their final 15-man squad for the World Cup.

It is believed that de Villiers approached South African Skipper Faf Du Plessis, head coach Ottis Gibson and convenor of selectors Linda Zondi, expressing his desire to reverse his retirement.

According to people privy to the talks, de Villiers’ request was “not even considered“.

There were two main reasons for rejecting his offer. Initially, de Villiers had retired in May 2018, before World Cup was scheduled. He never played any South African domestic cricket or intenational cricket for South Africa. Therefore he is not come under the selection criteria.

Secondly, it was unfair where the other players after his absence performing very well like Rassie van der Dussen, hitting three fifties in his first four ODIs against Pakistan.

Looking at the South African team performances in the World Cup 2019, the decision to refuse former South Africa captain’s proposal of international comeback by South Africa team management will raise many eyebrows.

AB de Villiers showed his master class with 442 runs at average of 44.20 for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the recent IPL and strike rate of 154 with 5 fifties.

During a press conference in IPL 2019, AB de Villiers had also questioned the journalists that why are they not asking about his potential comeback to international cricket.
